Recently, The Greenbacks teamed with Big Brothers Big Sisters and held a two part river experience. These two sessions helped show kids what lived in their home water of the South Platte. The first part was a fun day trudging around the Platte in Denver picking up and kicking over rocks while collecting the bugs that lived there. They learned that there are so many aquatic insects that help feed the ecosystem (from trout, to bass, to carp, etc.).

The second Saturday consisted of fly-tying to imitate these insects, then, with the help and generosity of the Department of Wildlife, the kids were given new rods and fished a small pond off the Platte in south Denver.

Overall we’re very happy to be involved in such a great program and look forward to helping more in the future. Thanks again to all our Greenbacks volunteers that helped.
